How to Tie Shoelaces with an Easy-to-Release Double Knot

Today I have a tip to share with you that is one of my all time favorites. This is a very simple way to keep your (or your childrens’) shoes tied without having to tie an old-fashioned double knot!

My hubby’s grandmother taught him how to tie his shoes like this when he was a boy. He showed me how, and I’ve never gone back!

I decided to do a video because it’s a little hard to share pictures of yourself tying shoelaces! :)

    Brilliant! My daughter dislikes untying and tying her shoes everyday (because of the difficulty of untying the double knot) and often just slips them on and off while still tied (which causes Mama’s OCD twitch to act up). ;) I think this is the solution we’ve been seeking!

    What a great idea! I can’t believe I never figured this out before! I always find that the bulk of the double knot digs in to the top of my foot when I am exercising so hopefully this will solve that problem.

    An additional shoe tying tip for all (especially good for those with narrow heels):
    **It is slightly difficult to explain without pictures so bear with me. It doesn’t matter if you start with right or left, but for ease of explanation I will use those directions**

    Begin by lacing your shoes normally (don’t forget to lace through the tongue if there is a tab there!) but stop once you have both laces coming up out of the 2nd to last holes. You may have noticed that many sneakers have an additional set of holes at the top, slightly out of line from the rest. This will utilize those holes properly. Pick up the end of the left lace and instead of bringing it to the other side of the tongue, keep it on the left and pull it immediately back down through the very last hole on the left. Now pick up the end of the right lace and pull it down through the last hole on the right. You have now created a small loop on each side and should have a lace coming out from underneath the very last hole on each side. Take the end of the left lace and bring it straight through the new loop on the right side. Now take the end of the right lace and bring it straight through the new loop on the left side. Put on the shoe and adjust the tongue to a comfortable position. Now simply pull both laces up in a rocking motion to tighten the laces across the bridge of the foot. Tie with Ginny’s single release double knot and you will have great support for your feet even during a high impact activity! Good luck!
